Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- 800g (6 cups) all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2g (½ teaspoon) salt
- 30ml (2 tablespoons) vegetable oil
- 15ml (1 tablespoon) white vinegar
- 250ml (1 cup) warm water
For the Syrup:
- 300ml (1¼ cups) water
- 300g (1½ cups) granulated sugar
- 50ml (3 tablespoons) fresh lemon juice
For the Filling:
- 300g (2 cups) finely chopped walnuts
- 500g (2 cups) unsalted butter, melted
Preparation:
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, eggs, salt, oil, vinegar, and warm water. Knead until a smooth dough forms, then cover and rest for 15 minutes.
Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and let them rest for another 15 minutes.
On a floured surface, roll out each dough portion into thin sheets. Layer the sheets in a greased baking pan, brushing each layer generously with melted butter.
After placing half of the dough layers, sprinkle evenly with chopped walnuts. Continue layering the remaining dough sheets, brushing with butter between each layer.
Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes before baking. Bake in a preheated oven at 360°F (180°C) for 60 minutes or until golden brown.
Meanwhile, prepare the syrup by boiling water, sugar, and lemon juice until it thickens slightly. Let it cool.
Once the baklava is baked, immediately pour the warm syrup over it. Let it sit for a few hours to absorb the syrup before serving.
Enjoy this crispy, sweet, and nutty treat that’s perfect for any occasion!
