Ingredients:
- Puff Pastry: 1 sheet (store-bought or homemade)
- Onions: 2 medium, finely minced
- Maple Syrup: 1/2 cup (preferably amber for its rich flavor)
- Salt and Pepper: to taste
- Flour: for dusting the work surface
Preparation:
In a non-stick pan, sauté the minced onions in the maple syrup over medium heat for about 20 minutes, seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. Allow the mixture to cool completely. On a floured work surface, roll out the puff pastry into a 46 cm x 20 cm (18 in x 8 in) rectangle. Spread the cooled onion and maple mixture over half of the pastry, then fold the other half over the filling. Press gently to seal. Cut the pastry into 1-inch wide strips and twist each strip gently. Place the twists on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for about 1 hour or until semi-frozen. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) with the rack in the center. Bake the twists for approximately 20 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Serve warm or at room temperature for a delightful treat.
Enjoy this perfect blend of sweet and savory flavors in every bite!
