Transform your leftover ham into a delicious and hearty 15 Bean Soup with Ham! This recipe is perfect for using up that ham bone and creating a comforting, nutritious meal that the whole family will love. Packed with protein, fiber, and flavor, this soup is a great way to warm up on a chilly day or enjoy a satisfying dinner any time of the year.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb bag of 15 bean mix
- Ham bone – with plenty of meat left on it
- Ham pieces – leftover from your baked ham
- 8 to 10 cups water
- Juice and drippings from the baked ham (or bouillon for extra flavor)
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon Weber Steak & Chop Seasoning (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
- Kosher salt, to taste – added at the end
Preparation:
Start by rinsing and draining the 15 bean mix. For quicker preparation, use the quick soak method: boil the beans for 2 minutes, remove from heat, and let them sit covered for 1 hour. Drain the beans and return them to the pot.
Add the ham bone, ham pieces, water, ham juice and drippings (or bouillon), chopped onion, minced garlic, black pepper, Weber Steak & Chop Seasoning (if using), and dried basil to the pot. Bring the mixture to a low boil and let it simmer for about 2 hours, or until the beans are tender to your liking. For extra tender beans, cook a bit longer.
Once the beans are cooked, remove the ham bone and shred the remaining ham meat with a fork. Add the shredded ham back to the pot. Taste the broth and adjust the seasoning as needed – you can add more garlic powder or finish with Kosher salt for the perfect balance of flavors.
Serve this hearty 15 Bean Soup with Ham hot, paired with cornbread or a side salad for a complete and satisfying meal. Enjoy!
