This cheesy sausage casserole is a holiday tradition in our home, loved by everyone for its hearty and comforting flavors. Prep it the night before, and simply pop it in the oven on Christmas morning for a stress-free, delicious breakfast. You can even switch things up by using croutons or sage sausage for a unique twist!
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground sausage
- 1 tsp mustard powder
- ½ tsp kosher salt
- 4 large eggs, beaten
- 2 C whole milk
- 6 slices white bread, toasted and cut into cubes
- 1 C mild Cheddar cheese, shredded
Preparation:
- Crumble sausage into a medium skillet and cook over medium heat until evenly brown; drain.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together mustard powder, salt, eggs, and milk.
- Add the cooked sausage, bread cubes, and shredded cheese to the bowl, stirring until everything is evenly coated.
- Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, cover, and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cover the dish and bake for 45 to 60 minutes.
- Uncover, reduce the temperature to 325°F (165°C), and bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until set.
- Cut into portions and serve warm.
