90-Minute Cinnamon Rolls: The Ultimate Gooey Brunch Delight

Of all the recipes I’ve revamped, rephotographed, and refined, this one truly stands out as the most deserving of a spotlight. Since first sharing it in 2012, I’ve made these 90-Minute Cinnamon Rolls countless times, and they’ve become my go-to for every brunch, weekend getaway, and special occasion. These warm, ooey-gooey cinnamon rolls are a crowd-pleaser, and after kneading, rolling, and devouring dozens of batches, I can confidently say they’re a favorite for many!

While I’ve experimented with various sweet and savory flavor combinations, this classic cinnamon roll recipe remains unbeatable. The perfect balance of brown sugar, cinnamon, and softened margarine creates a filling that’s irresistibly decadent. Plus, the dough is incredibly easy to work with, making it ideal for both novice and experienced bakers.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup margarine, softened
  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 (.25 ounce) package instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup margarine, softened
  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)

Preparation:

1. Heat the milk in a small saucepan until it bubbles, then remove from heat. Mix in 1/4 cup softened margarine and stir until melted. Let cool until lukewarm.

2. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 1/4 cups flour, yeast, white sugar, and salt; mix well. Add water, egg, and the milk mixture; beat until smooth. Gradually add the remaining 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup at a time, stirring well after each addition. Once the dough comes together, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth, about 5 minutes.

3. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let rest for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, cinnamon, and 1/2 cup softened margarine to create the filling.

4. Roll out the dough into a 12×9 inch rectangle. Spread the margarine/sugar mixture evenly over the dough. Sprinkle with raisins if desired. Roll up the dough tightly and pinch the seam to seal. Cut into 12 equal-sized rolls and place them cut side up in lightly greased muffin cups.

5. Cover the rolls and let them rise until doubled, about 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

6. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the muffin cups and let cool slightly. Serve these warm cinnamon rolls for a truly indulgent treat!
