  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup shortening

  • 9 apples – peeled, cored, and sliced
  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1½ cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp milk

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, stir together flour, 2 tbsp sugar, and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add egg yolks and ½ cup milk, stirring until combined.
