Ingredients:
- 250 g all-purpose flour (2 cups)
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 115 g cold unsalted butter (1/2 cup), cubed
- Pinch of salt
- 180 ml whole milk (3/4 cup)
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and prepare a baking tray with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt until well combined.
Add the cold cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized pieces of butter remaining.
Pour in the milk and gently stir until the dough just comes together. Avoid overmixing.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for about 1 minute until it becomes smooth.
Pat the dough into a 15 cm x 15 cm (6 inch x 6 inch) square, about 2 cm (1 inch) thick.
Using a sharp knife or bench scraper, cut the dough into 12 equal portions. Carefully transfer the biscuits to the prepared baking tray, leaving a small gap between each.
Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Serve warm and enjoy the flaky, buttery goodness!
